🚗 Tried to make my first voxel-based game ever with @boltdotnew It's my first time really using Bolt, you get your regular prompt window on the left side, but any updates to your project are immediately visible on the right side as a browser I think it's much easier for non-tech people because you don't need to switch to your browser to test, and because you skip the whole deployment step, you just click Publish or say publish and it's up as a site My game here is inspired by Teardown, that game that's built up by voxel blocks where you can destroy everything, it's somehow so satisfying to destroy every wall and object But I wanted to do it as a race game, but then I thought why not make it like demolition derby where the goal is to crash into each other? And parts of your car fly off etc. So 🚗 Voxel Derby was born It took a bit to get everything right and you still have to direct it to get what you want, like the engine sound was quite basic and then I told it "okay add gears" and then suddenly it sounded realistic, that kind of stuff But it actually built a performant voxel-based game pretty easily, I'm impressed Tomorrow I'll try add multiplayer just with Bolt, no idea if it can do, it'd have to spin up some server for that but we'll see if it works 😊

🚁🏚️ Okay so I asked @cursor_ai to add FBX scenery of a city in ruins, which is a bit of a cheat code because the city is not generated by AI But instantly it looks like a real drone sim in a war zone, try scroll vid through the end Now I just need to add better lighting and collision detection and more stuff, and fix some bugs Very cool since I only started ~4 hours ago 😲 Way way faster progress than last year I think Also the scenery is like 300mb so I somehow need to fix that...

🕹️ As the #vibejam organizer, I sadly can't participate But I still really really really wanted to make an FPV drone sim 😊 So I started to make it today, it has the real movement like a real drone, swerving left and right fast (with your mouse) and steering with keys WASD and Space to go up and Shift to go down, it's just a draft but you can try it here: 🚁 http://drone.pieter.com I love that typical VHS-ey analog video signal noise, so i tried to emulate it and of course it gets noisier the further you fly away and you lose radio signal I want to improve the look more to make it look really realistic this time, last year the plane game was fun but it didn't look realistic, this year we can try to go for more photorealistic as AI might finally be able to do it And of course I added an onboard gun and grenades you can throw off the drone Next I wanna add like more stuff to fly through like buildings and maybe some moving tanks and real enemies to shoot too A challenge is to get it to look realistic with just AI generated trees and scenery etc. I will follow the 90% AI rule and try to generate assets instead of importing them Anyway first impression is that there's been a lot of progress in AI models, they're much smarter than when we did the Vibe Jam a year ago, they still make mistakes but much less and it's easier to get your point across what you want them to build, very cool!

🇵🇹 If you have ever dealt with any Portuguese business (and I have with many in my 5 years here) you know why Portuguese in Portugal simply do not care about work, some foreigners find that refreshing, but it results in a country where you can't find anyone to do work because nobody wants to work And when they do work, the work is generally bad, like imagine stepping into a time machine back to 1970s bad, they also can't follow the spec you agreed upon beforehand, and then when it's 60% done they disappear and ghost you When we did home renovatiom, you hire ppl, they arrive late at 9am (you agreed 8am), they then drive away to get materials, come back 11am, do actual work for an hour, then at 12noon announce they go for lunch, come back around 2.30pm, walk around a bit, do some work, and then leave early at 4pm It's not just construction workers, it's almost every interaction you have here with a Portuguese business, the quality is just low, the service non-existent or customer-hostile, and it's not the language, I speak fluent Portuguese, I'm respectful and friendly which is why I never ever had this amount of issues elsewhere in the world And I know it's not just my experience, it's everyone I know here, even Portuguese complain about Portuguese! It's not completely their fault though, the hostile tax system for both people and businesses literally gives you an incentive to never ever scale your business beyond I believe around €150,000/year, because you end up in a completely different category and tax tier that decimates you with more taxes and more bookkeeping So every business tries to stay small, and doesn't want more customers (how many times have I walked into a Portuguese cafe or shop and the staff or owner *sighed* "not another customer") Add decades of socialist governments that hand out free money to 50% of the country (and even the right wing parties here are socialist btw, they have to be or they don't get votes) and you don't have any incentive to work left Why work when you don't need to work? The majority of the young smart Portuguese people with actual ambitions understandably move elsewhere, because if there's no incentive to grow a business, there's also no jobs for them, and the whole thing becomes a vicious cycle of increasing poverty Which is why I said Portuguese in Portugal at the beginning of this tweet, because Portuguese outside of Portugal are ambitious, want to work, want to improve their lives! Bringing in lots of foreigners like me by the government as a way to pump money into the system, we spend a lot and it pays for the welfare, healthcare and retirements of Portuguese now, but it's not a structural solution (and we also instantly became the scapegoat for the government's decades of mismanagement) It'd be relatively easy to fix this though if people in Portugal would put on their thinking hat: 💡 Make Portugal a great place to start and run a business, model yourself after Singapore but with extremely low taxes (maybe 5-10%) for companies/startups and make it easy for them to hire (and fire) people, the money you lose in taxes you will get back in increased economic activity over time (but it will hurt for a little bit) Because even the foreigners who move here and start businesses get caught up in the reverse incentive spiral of Portugal: Why even work?

There has to be some word for this concept It's why designers from tech who design touchscreens like Jony Ive won't put a touch screen in a car but use real knobs Or why programmers don't actually like smart homes and smart appliances at all but want things analog Or why tech people raise their kids without mobile devices Like knowing things so well from inside of it (tech) that you choose to NOT use it because you know the negatives that come with it in specific contexts

I said this I forgot to who but I said it BigTech will eventually come for all apps / startups / companies because they can fill the niches now that before could not because they were too small Those niches is where entrepeneurs hung out, nice parts of the market people could build a little SaaS with $100K/y to even $100M/y, notjing like the $100B/y revenue BigTech was doing, but worth it With AI now BigTech can fill those niches + they are the ones training and owning the best models, and keeping the best models for themselves they can outcompete anyone who doesn't own them (everyone except other BigTech) End game for their survival is simply trying to take every business, it's just capitalism This completely changes the prospect for entrepreneurs as there won't be much left, because BigTech is financially incentivized to have to take everything Because if they don't, their competitor will! https://x.com/marmaduke091/status/2043382991901147158?s=46

🇧🇷 My friend booked a very nice upscale hotel in Rio de Janeiro But to pay for the booking online they required to enter a Brazilian taxpayer number (CPF), so he called them and said he doesn't have a CPF No problem they said, they'll sent a new payment form without CPF where foreigners can enter their passport This payment for required a Brazilian phone number though The catch-22? To get a Brazilian phone number you need a CPF number! And recently the Brazilian government made it much harder for foreigners to get that, in my case I had to physically visit the Brazilian embassy in Lisbon and wait for an hour to get my CPF So he had to physically go there to pay Brazil really needs to fix this stuff or it's never going to get more tourists because it's so hard to pay for things here! And it's not just hotels! Because in everything else Brazil is so hospitable and inviting to gringos PLEASE FIX THIS BRAZIL!

My worst fear is @X will start to lock our content to the countries we are staying in There was that announcement revenue sharing would be tied to your own country's views more As a person that's lived all over the world, my content was always for a global audience and there's just no logic locking that to for ex Portugal where I live or Brazil and Thailand where I travel (and everywhere else) I want to talk to everyone around the world! 🌎 🌍 🌏
